Overview
I Love My Dad is an American comedy film written and directed by James Morosini, inspired by actual events in his life where his estranged father catfishes him by posing as a love interest on social media in an attempt to reconnect with his son. Much of the plot happens over text message and social media, thus the need for a motion graphics artist.
Approach
VFX supervisor Patrick Longstreth brought me onto this project knowing specifically my experience with motion graphic design and felt that many of my skills could be transferable and in effect enhanced through working this project. The job was to fabricate various messaging platform applications, animate those platforms in use, tracking and compositing those interfaces with simulated interactivity, and more rotoscoping than anyone could ever want to do in their life.

Reflection
This was the first project I began working in the VFX space. Through it I learned a ton about work flow and pipeline standard as well as how existing skills of animation and organization could be leveraged and expanded. I was also able to look more deeply into interface behavior and the nuances of actions like cursor movement, I was pretty proud of the small moments that heightened the realism of the animated graphics.
