Overview
Film producer and director Nikola Ðuravčević sought an opening title card for his short film, The Light. The film tells the story of a singularly surviving man mourning the loss of his wife and child and overcoming the futuristic post-apocalyptic world in which the film is set. Themes of emptiness, mystery, and faith are prevalent throughout the film.
Approach
I find titles projects tend to be particularly exciting to take on as they generally require a tailored fit to an original work of art, thus offering an opportunity to create something novel. Our process was relatively straight forward. Mr. Ðuravčević first sent his film to screen and we then discussed his vision.
After several rounds of layout design, we ultimately landed on an elegant type treatment, a modified Futura font, and a subtly randomized, soft, and ethereal fade and blur resolve to evoke some of the mystery of a guest character in the film. The original order for opening production company credits and title card expanded to a main-on-end credit sequence that used the same type treatment as well as a credit scroll.

Reflection
I believe the finest quality of title sequences hides itself within the apparent simplicity of execution, that artfully adjusting just a few parameters of typography’s appearance can serve to reflect the nature and mood of the film’s subject without stealing the spotlight. I give it an A.
